Privacy notice

Who is responsible

The Business Catalogue PTY LTD is the responsible party for personal information collected through this site, at 63 Langeveldt, Midrand, Vorna Valley. Questions about this notice, or about information we hold, go to bliss@syncopation.live.

What we collect

Only what you type into a signup form, which is your email address and, if you used the Notify me button on a specific piece, the name of that piece. We also record which form you used and the date and time it reached us.

That is the whole list of what you type. We do not ask for your name, we do not ask for a phone number, and we do not keep your IP address. There are no advertising pixels and no tracking cookies anywhere on this site, and nothing here is shared with an analytics company. Your theme choice and which music player you prefer are remembered by your own browser and are never sent to us.

We do count link clicks, and the section below says exactly what that means.

Why we ask for it

Three reasons, and no others. To tell you when a drop lands or a release goes out, which is the thing you signed up for. Where you asked about a specific piece, to know which pieces people actually want: everything in the first drop sold out, so the list of who asked for what is how we decide what gets made next. And, if you asked for an invite to a live night, to send you the date when there is one, because the rooms are small and invitations go to that list rather than being advertised.

We email you about what you signed up for. We do not pass your address to anyone else's mailing list, and we do not sell it.

What it means that you gave it to us

We rely on your consent, given by submitting the form. You can withdraw it at any time. Every page, record and image on this site stays readable either way, and nothing you can read here is behind a signup. The one thing the list gets that non-subscribers do not is an invitation to a live night, because those rooms are too small to advertise.

Where it is kept, and who can see it

On the hosting that serves this site, in a file that is not part of the public website and cannot be reached by visiting a web address. Our hosting provider can technically access it, as any host can. Nobody else has been given a copy.

We do not currently use a mailing platform. If that changes, and it will once there is enough of a list to be worth sending to, this notice is updated to name the provider before anything is moved.

Counting link clicks

When you follow a link from this site to somewhere else, whether Spotify, TikTok, Apple Music or any of them, we record four things: the time, the page you were on, the destination, and nothing more. A row looks like “6 August, from /links, to open.spotify.com”. That is the entire record.

There is no cookie, no visitor number, no session and no IP address, so two clicks by the same person are indistinguishable from two clicks by two people. That is not an oversight. It is the point. It lets us see which destinations people use, and it cannot be used to work out what any individual did, because the information needed to do that is never collected in the first place.

It is counted by this website's own server. No analytics company is involved and nothing is sent anywhere else. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we do not count your clicks at all, and nothing is counted with JavaScript turned off.

We do this because we need to know whether the links are working. It is the same information a link-in-bio service would have given us, collected with less.

Music players and release information

The home page plays a release through Apple Music's or Spotify's own player. That player is theirs, loaded from them, so your browser contacts Apple, or Spotify if you switch to it, and that company receives your IP address and the usual details any website receives when you visit it: what browser you are using, and which page asked. It happens because you loaded this page, not because we sent them anything about you. We do not pass them your email address or anything you have typed into a form here, and we get nothing back about you. What they then do with it is governed by their privacy policy, not this one.

The rest is fetched by this website's own server rather than by your browser. Our release list and the latest videos from our YouTube channel are both collected here and passed on to you, so seeing a current catalogue or an up-to-date video list does not tell Apple or YouTube anything about you. Playing a video does, because that opens YouTube.

If you would rather not contact any of them, the players do not load with JavaScript turned off; the page still works and still lists the music.

How long we keep it

Until you ask us to remove it, or until the list it belongs to is finished with: a waitlist for a specific piece ends when that piece has shipped or has been abandoned. We do not keep addresses on the theory that they might be useful one day.

Your rights

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act you may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to what we are doing with it, or withdraw your consent. Ask and we will do it. There is no form to fill in and no reason we would refuse a deletion request for a mailing list.

Changes to this notice

If what we collect or what we do with it changes, this page changes first and the date at the top changes with it.
